Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), has claimed that several members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have approached his party seeking membership after allegedly losing out in internal political contests.…....
Baba-Ahmed made the disclosure during an interview on SYMFONI TV while discussing the state of Nigeria’s political parties and the growing dissatisfaction within the ruling party. According to him, many politicians who feel sidelined within the APC are now exploring opportunities in alternative political platforms.
The former presidential aide, however, stated that the PRP has strict guidelines governing membership and political participation, adding that not every interested politician can automatically be admitted into the party.
“As we speak, i know how many APC people knocking on our door in the PRP who have lost out in the competition saying can we come in. And then we are saying, ‘sorry, the guidelines don’t allow us to let you in,’” Baba-Ahmed said during the interview.
He explained that the PRP is trying to build a party structure based on principles and discipline rather than opportunistic defections. Baba-Ahmed stressed that the party does not want to become a refuge for politicians who only seek relevance after losing influence in their former parties.
