Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is set to visit the United States to draw international attention to what he described as the “alarming deterioration” of security, governance, and the economy in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku expressed deep concern over the worsening state of the country and announced plans to engage key policy and institutional stakeholders in the US during the visit.

The exact date of the trip is yet to be announced.“Atiku believes that Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, economic instability, and governance challenges require urgent national and international attention,” the statement said.

The former presidential candidate, who has remained a vocal critic of the current administration’s policies, is expected to use the platform to advocate for stronger bilateral cooperation and practical solutions to Nigeria’s pressing problems.

This planned visit comes amid continued public discourse on rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency across several parts of the country, as well as widespread economic hardship marked by high inflation, naira volatility, and increasing poverty levels.

Further details on the itinerary and specific engagements are expected to be released in the coming days.
