In a recent interview on News Central TV, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, spoke about political discipline, internal party reactions, and the conduct of politicians after electoral contests, particularly referencing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
During the interview, Momodu reflected on how political actors respond to defeat in competitive party processes and national elections. He stressed that experience and temperament often determine how politicians manage disappointment after electoral contests.
Speaking during the discussion, Momodu stated, “Atiku Abubakar has been defeated many times, and he has never misbehaved – Momodu tells Amaechi.” He made the remark while defending what he described as the former vice president’s calm and disciplined approach to politics despite repeated attempts at the presidency.
Momodu explained that Atiku Abubakar has consistently demonstrated political maturity by remaining active in democratic processes even after electoral losses. According to him, the former vice president has maintained stability and avoided actions that could destabilize the political system or his party structure.
He noted that political contests often generate tension, but true statesmanship is reflected in how candidates respond after results are announced. Momodu argued that Atiku’s conduct over the years reflects resilience and commitment to democratic participation.
He further stated that Nigerian politics requires patience and emotional control, especially in high-stakes presidential contests. He urged politicians to prioritize long-term engagement over reactive responses to electoral outcomes.
He concluded by advising political actors to emulate consistency and discipline in their political careers, stressing that the ability to accept outcomes peacefully remains an important trait for national leadership aspirants.
