A government-chartered evacuation flight arranged by Ghana to repatriate up to 300 of its citizens from South Africa amid heightened anti immigration protests took off from OR Tambo International Airport today, Thursday with only a single passenger on board.
The early-morning departure, scheduled for around 5 a.m. on May 21, 2026, was part of an emergency operation announced by Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa earlier in the week.
