BREAKING: Jerry Gana Receives Goodluck Jonathan’s PDP Certificate of Return

A fresh political drama has unfolded within Nigeria’s opposition politics after elder statesman and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jerry Gana, reportedly received a Certificate of Return on behalf of former President Goodluck Jonathan during a controversial party gathering in Abuja.

The development reportedly took place during a convention organised by a faction of the PDP ahead of the 2027 presidential election, sparking widespread reactions across the country and raising fresh questions about the future leadership of the party.

According to reports, the event was organised by a faction allegedly led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki (SAN). The gathering was initially expected to hold at a different venue before it was reportedly moved to Area 10, Garki, Abuja, due to security concerns.

At the event, delegates and supporters of the faction allegedly ratified former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Although Jonathan was absent from the ceremony, Jerry Gana was said to have received the Certificate of Return on his behalf before party members and supporters.

The move has generated mixed reactions within political circles, especially as the mainstream leadership of the PDP has yet to officially recognise the convention or the decision taken by the faction.

Political analysts say the situation reflects the ongoing internal crisis within the opposition party as different blocs continue to struggle for control ahead of the next election cycle.

Goodluck Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s President between 2010 and 2015, has remained a respected figure in African politics since leaving office. Over the years, there have been repeated speculations about a possible return to active politics, although the former president has not officially declared interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election.
