The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has confirmed the arrest of three individuals over the circulation of what it described as “false and defamatory” claims targeting its Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu.

In a statement, the bank dismissed viral reports alleging that Elumelu had divorced his wife, describing the claims as fabricated, malicious, and intended to mislead the public while damaging his reputation.

UBA said the matter had been escalated to law enforcement authorities, who have commenced a full-scale investigation.

The bank identified those arrested as Kingsley Akunemeihe (also known as @Directorkem), Chigozie Success Ihebom, and John Surpruchi Nwanorue (@problemchimky).

It added that investigations were ongoing and could lead to further arrests and prosecutions of individuals involved in originating or amplifying the claims.

The bank also issued a cease-and-desist directive to individuals and platforms disseminating the content, urging them to immediately take down the publications and preserve all related records for potential legal proceedings.

UBA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity, privacy, and reputation of its leadership and brand, warning that it would pursue all available legal remedies against those found culpable.
