Chaos at Wedding as Bride’s Family Discovers Groom Is Transgender After Vows Are Completed

A wedding in India turned into chaos when the bride’s family discovered that the groom was transgender, just hours after they completed the traditional “seven vows” of marriage.…....

The groom, 22-year-old Rishu, was exposed as being part of the transgender (kinnar) community on the night of February 13, 2026, right before the bride’s “bidai” ceremony, which is when the bride leaves for her new home.

The wedding had been arranged six months earlier between Rishu, a resident of Pure Ganai village, and a local girl. Everything seemed to be going smoothly that evening. The groom’s procession, or “baraat,” arrived with music, dancing, and celebration. Rituals were carried out, and guests enjoyed a festive dinner.

However, at around 4 a.m., when preparations for the bride’s departure were underway, a group of transgender people (kinnars) arrived at the venue to collect the traditional gift, or “neg.” The mood quickly shifted when they recognized the groom.

Witnesses say the groom’s family quickly gave Rs 23,000 to the kinnars, hoping they would stay quiet. But when the bride’s family asked to verify the groom’s gender, he refused. The kinnars revealed that the groom had once been part of their group.

The bride’s relatives were furious, and they detained the groom while police were called. However, no formal complaint was filed, likely due to the sensitive social situation. After some discussions, the groom’s family agreed to pay back the wedding expenses, and the groom’s procession left without the bride.
