The Dangote Group has refuted reports alleging a rift between its president, Aliko Dangote, and Tony Elumelu, Chairman of the United Bank for Africa.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the company’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, described the claims as false, malicious, and baseless, stressing that neither Dangote nor the Group made such remarks.
The conglomerate also dismissed allegations that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals was funded through personal borrowing from friends, calling the assertion a misrepresentation of facts.
It maintained that Dangote does not finance projects through such means and challenged those making the claims to provide verifiable evidence.
According to the statement, there is no estrangement between Dangote and Elumelu, noting that both businessmen maintain a longstanding and cordial relationship.
The Group further raised concerns over the growing spread of fabricated statements and the unauthorised use of Dangote’s identity in AI-generated advertisements and misleading content, warning that such actions could amount to reputational damage and fraud.
It warned individuals and platforms circulating false information to desist immediately or face legal action, reaffirming its commitment to integrity and its role in driving industrialisation and economic development across Africa.
