Lagos State lawmaker Desmond Elliot has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress primary election for the Surulere 1 constituency in the House of Assembly, citing alleged intimidation of his supporters.
Elliot made the announcement on Wednesday at the Paddington mini stadium on Western Avenue, where the party’s primary was being conducted.
The actor-turned-politician said he made several appeals to electoral officers to allow his supporters access to the polling venue but was repeatedly ignored.
He alleged that supporters across all zones were being intimidated and prevented from participating in the process.
Following his withdrawal, his supporters staged a peaceful protest and walked out of the venue alongside him.
In parting words to party members, Elliot wished them well and called on the APC leadership to ensure that its primaries across the state are conducted in a free and fair manner.
He explained that his decision to leave was driven by a desire to prevent any breakdown of law and order, stressing that no election result was worth the loss of human lives.
