A Canada-based Nigerian doctor, Arinze Onwumelu, has recommended that singer Portable undergo a brain scan following his celebrity boxing match with skit maker Carter Efe in Lagos over the weekend.

The high-intensity bout, which drew massive attention from fans and celebrities alike, ended in Portable’s defeat, prompting a flood of reactions across social media.

In a post and viral video, Onwumelu, popularly known as Dr Zo, recommended that the singer undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to rule out possible internal head injuries sustained during the fight.

He warned that repeated blows to sensitive areas of the head could pose serious health risks, including subdural hematoma, a potentially life-threatening brain condition.

“This is an exhibition match meant for entertainment, not a real fight to harm anyone,” he said. “I watched the video, and the kind of punches delivered—Portable may need urgent medical attention.”

The doctor further urged anyone close to the singer to ensure he is taken for immediate medical evaluation, including brain tests, to check for possible internal damage.

He also called on organisers of celebrity boxing events to make protective headgear compulsory to reduce the risk of serious injuries.

Ahead of the match, Portable had expressed confidence in his fitness, stating he was ready for the bout after previous exhibition wins over rapper Speed Darlington and actor Charles Okocha.
