Francis Nwifuru has dismissed speculation of a rift with his predecessor and current Minister of Works, David Umahi, over the consensus arrangement adopted by stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election primaries.

The governor made the clarification in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor, following consultative meetings held with party stakeholders last week.

During the meetings, stakeholders agreed on adopting a consensus approach for the party’s primaries.

However, Umahi reportedly pushed for direct primaries in situations where consensus could not be reached, a position that sparked mixed reactions within the party and fuelled speculation of a disagreement.

Umahi’s absence from the meetings further intensified claims of a possible fallout between the two leaders.

Reacting, Nwifuru insisted that there is no discord between him and the former governor, stressing that both leaders are working in unity for the progress of the party in the state.

“The governor wishes to categorically state that the party remains one indivisible family where all aspirants will be treated equally, as agreed by stakeholders,” the statement said.
He added that any unresolved issues surrounding the consensus arrangement would be addressed amicably, while assuring that he would engage all aspirants ahead of the primaries.

Nwifuru also urged stakeholders, aspirants, and party faithful to close ranks and make necessary sacrifices in the interest of party unity.
