Ex-Kano Dep Gov Gwarzo Emerges NDC Governorship Candidate

Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The announcement was made on Friday, 29 May, 2026, by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, spokesperson to the former Deputy Governor, who disclosed that Gwarzo would be formally affirmed alongside other candidates of the party during its affirmation ceremony scheduled for the same day.

According to Shuaibu, the event will feature the affirmation of candidates contesting for seats in the State Houses of Assembly, the National Assembly, governorship positions, and the presidency.

Gwarzo brings decades of political and administrative experience to the race. He previously served as Deputy Governor of Kano State and was elected twice as a local government chairman. He also held commissioner positions in four ministries within the state government, contributing to policy development and implementation across various sectors.

His public service record further includes membership of the National Assembly Service Commission and service as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora.

The spokesperson noted that Gwarzo’s extensive experience in governance and grassroots politics has earned him recognition as one of Kano State’s seasoned political figures.

His emergence as the NDC governorship candidate is expected to strengthen the party’s campaign efforts and enhance its prospects in the forthcoming elections.

Speaking on the development, party supporters expressed optimism that Gwarzo’s experience and political network would position the NDC as a strong contender in the governorship contest.
