The ancient city of Ile-Ife was agog on Saturday as Chief Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, wife of former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, was conferred with the prestigious Yeye Moremi Oodua title by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
The grand ceremony, which coincided with her 60th birthday, drew eminent Nigerians from across political, traditional and business circles, in a celebration marked by rich cultural displays and royal splendour.
Mrs. Amosun was honoured in recognition of her commitment to service, philanthropy and courage—virtues synonymous with the legendary Moremi Ajasoro of Ife.
Among dignitaries present were the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, and former governors Kayode Fayemi, Babatunde Fashola, and Gbenga Daniel.
Other notable attendees included former senators Lanre Tejuoso and Lekan Mustapha, as well as the 2023 Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ladi Adebutu.
The event also witnessed the presence of prominent traditional rulers, including the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo; the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola; the Ataoja of Osogbo and the Emir of Borgu, among others.
Speaking at the ceremony, Makinde lauded the celebrant for embodying the virtues of Queen Moremi, noting her sustained contributions to humanity and community development.
In his remarks, Oba Ogunwusi said the conferment was in recognition of Mrs. Amosun’s consistent dedication to the ideals of sacrifice, courage and cultural preservation associated with the Moremi legacy.
Similarly, Oba Gbadebo described her as a woman of grace and compassion, whose unwavering support played a vital role during her husband’s tenure in public office.
In her acceptance speech, the honouree expressed gratitude to the Ooni for the recognition, describing the title as both humbling and a call to greater service. She pledged to uphold the values of selflessness, courage and commitment to societal development.
A reception later held at Ojaja Resort featured goodwill messages, including one delivered by Abike Dabiri-Erewa on behalf of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
The celebration climaxed with electrifying performances by juju music legends Ebenezer Obey and King Sunny Ade, alongside other entertainers, adding glamour to the historic occasion.
