Tension gripped Osogbo on Wednesday after the Osun State Government confirmed that Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as B-Red, narrowly escaped what officials described as an “assassination attempt.”

The incident, which reportedly occurred in broad daylight, has raised fresh concerns over political violence and security in the state capital.

In a statement released on April 30, 2026, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the attack happened at about 3:30pm around Oke-Fia, close to the Government House in Osogbo.

He explained that a group of hoodlums allegedly carried out the act, with suspicion pointing to a man identified as Asiri Eniba.

According to the government, the attackers attempted to intercept the governor’s son while he was moving within the city. The situation quickly escalated into a dangerous pursuit, creating panic among residents and road users in the area.

B-Red, who spoke about the incident, said he was driving near Alekuwodo Market when he noticed unusual movements around his vehicle.

“As I went out to buy some stuff around Alekuwodo market, I just saw some Okada riders with AMBO caps trying to surround my vehicle at a traffic point under Okefia Bridge. As we tried to move out, we saw a white Toyota Venza coming towards us with a shout of “it is him; It is him.”

He explained that what started as a suspicious encounter soon turned into a full chase.

“As we moved, the Toyota Venza pursued us, trying to block my jeep. At the same time, the multiple motorcycles also joined in the chase. The chasing continued until we got to the gate of the Osun state Government House, Oke-fia.

“We identified one of the occupants of the vehicle to be Asiri Eniba, a notorious APC Thug “.

Eyewitness accounts also suggested that the convoy of motorcycles attempted to box in the vehicle at different points along the road, forcing the driver to maneuver quickly to avoid being stopped. The situation reportedly caused temporary disruption in traffic around Oke-Fia and nearby areas.

The state government condemned the development, describing it as a serious threat to peace and order. Alimi maintained that the attack was not only targeted at an individual but also an indication of rising political tension in the state.

He said the matter has been formally reported to security agencies, including the police, for immediate investigation. The commissioner stressed that those behind the act must be identified and brought to justice without delay.

Alimi described the incident as an “assassination attempt” and called for urgent action. He urged security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down the suspects and ensuring that law and order are maintained across Osun State.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the police regarding arrests or ongoing operations linked to the case. However, sources within security circles hinted that preliminary investigations have commenced.
