Hayatu-Deen boycotts ADC primary results announcement over alleged rigging

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, says he will boycott the announcement of the party’s presidential primary results over alleged widespread irregularities and vote rigging.

The ADC conducted its nationwide direct primary on Monday to select its candidate for the 2027 presidential election, with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen emerging as the leading contenders.

Early results from several states reportedly showed Atiku recording significant leads, including wide margins in Sokoto, Yobe, and Gombe states.

Reacting to the development in a post shared on X on Tuesday, Hayatu-Deen expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the primary exercise.

He alleged that the process was manipulated in ways that compromised the credibility of the election.

“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps,” he wrote
