The Nigerian online community has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of popular TikTok content creator Monica Oma Owunaka, better known as Monique Pearls or Monicstar.
She died at the age of 30, leaving behind grieving fans, friends, and loved ones who had followed and admired her content over the years.
Monique Pearls gained popularity on TikTok for her emotional and relatable videos centered on motherhood, family dynamics, and caregiving. Her storytelling often highlighted everyday family experiences in Nigeria, earning her a loyal audience.
One of her most talked-about content themes featured a young girl known as Precious, reportedly a child her family brought from the village. Their close bond became a recurring and emotional part of her videos, further endearing her to viewers.
Through her authentic and heartfelt approach, Monique built a strong connection with thousands of followers who appreciated her portrayal of real-life family situations.
Her family announced her passing in a statement shared via her official Instagram page on May 28, 2026. In the statement, they expressed deep sorrow and described her as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.
They wrote:
“It is with deep pain and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend, Monica Oma Owunaka.”
They further described her as a warm and kind-hearted individual whose presence brought joy to many, noting that her love and impact would never be forgotten.
“Monica was a beautiful soul whose love, kindness, strength, and presence touched so many lives. She brought warmth, joy, and light to everyone around her, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Words cannot fully express the depth of this loss or the pain of saying goodbye so suddenly. Though her time with us was far too short, the love she shared and the impact she made will never be forgotten.”
The family also asked for prayers and support during this difficult period, adding that details regarding her burial arrangements would be announced later.
“During this difficult time, we kindly ask for prayers, love, and strength for the family and everyone mourning this heartbreaking loss. Further details regarding burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. Gone too soon.”
As of the time of this report, the cause of her death has not been made public.
