According to reports, the tragedy unfolded on the evening of Friday, May 15, 2026, around 8:45 PM. A young man was allegedly teaching his girlfriend how to drive when she lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and crashed directly into Mrs. Esomonu’s residence, killing her three children on the spot.

Eyewitness accounts and the mother’s own emotional testimony describe the horror: Mrs. Esomonu returned from a brief errand to find her children’s bodies mangled from the impact. The distraught mother has been crying out for justice, claiming the perpetrators appear to be evading full accountability.
While narrating the story on air, Ojy Okpe’s voice cracked as she fought back tears, visibly moved by the unimaginable pain of a mother losing all three children in one careless moment. The clip has since gone viral, with many Nigerians praising the presenter for showing raw human emotion and calling for stricter road safety measures.
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed they are investigating the case and have assured the public that “justice will be served.” However, the grieving family and concerned citizens are demanding swift action, especially against the dangerous practice of giving driving lessons on busy roads at night.
This tragedy has sparked widespread outrage online, with many questioning why learner drivers are being taught on major roads instead of safe, designated areas. It has also renewed calls for better town planning, as residential buildings sit dangerously close to busy highways in many parts of Port Harcourt.
