Arne Slot has emerged as the leading candidate to become AC Milan’s next manager, just hours after his departure from Liverpool was confirmed.
The Dutch coach is now considered the frontrunner for the vacancy at the San Siro as the Italian club begins a major restructuring.
This followed a disappointing season.
According to Sky Sports journalist, Sacha Tavolieri, discussions are already underway between Milan and Slot’s representatives.
The vacancy followed a turbulent campaign for Milan, who finished fifth in Serie A and failed to qualify for the Champions League.
The club has also parted ways with manager Massimiliano Allegri, while changes have extended to the executive level with the departures of the chief executive officer and sporting director.
Slot became available after Liverpool ended his two-year spell at Anfield following an end-of-season review.
The 47-year-old enjoyed a successful first season on Merseyside, guiding Liverpool to their 20th English top-flight title during the 2024/25 campaign.
However, a difficult 2025/26 season brought increased pressure, with Liverpool opting for a managerial change after a campaign that fell below expectations.
Milan’s interest comes as the club seeks a fresh direction both on and off the pitch.
Alongside the pursuit of Slot, the Serie A side are reportedly close to appointing former Barcelona executive Ramon Planes as sporting director as part of plans to usher in a new era at the club.
Meanwhile, attention at Liverpool has already shifted to finding Slot’s replacement.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has emerged as the strong favourite to take charge at Anfield ahead of the new season.
