During the interview, Momodu stated, “I don’t want anybody to say I am following Atiku Abubakar because I want to be his running mate.” He made the remark while clarifying his political stance and responding to perceptions about his closeness to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.…....
Momodu explained that in Nigerian politics, associations between individuals are often misinterpreted as attempts to secure political appointments or personal benefits. According to him, such assumptions can distort public understanding of genuine political relationships and ideological alignment.
He stressed that his engagement in opposition politics, including within the African Democratic Congress, is driven by broader democratic principles rather than personal ambition for office or appointment. He added that political participation should not automatically be linked to hidden motives.
Momodu further stated that coalition politics ahead of the 2027 elections requires transparency and honesty among stakeholders, noting that mistrust and speculation often weaken collaboration efforts among opposition figures.
He also emphasized that Nigerian politics should evolve beyond personality-driven narratives, urging citizens and observers to focus more on ideas, governance strategies, and national development goals rather than assumptions about political intentions.
He concluded by reiterating that political actors must be judged by their actions and contributions to democratic discourse, not by perceived ambitions, as the country continues to prepare for another critical election cycle.
