Political activist and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial aspirant for the Federal Capital Territory, Aisha Yusuf, has pledged to adopt a grassroots-driven and people-centred approach to governance if she emerges as the party’s candidate for the 2027 National Assembly election.…....
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, May 24, 2026, Yusuf said her ambition to represent the FCT in the Senate would be anchored on direct engagement with residents across all wards in Abuja.
According to her, rather than relying on conventional campaign rallies and political promises, she intends to sit with residents in every ward to hear directly from them about their most pressing challenges.
Yusuf explained that the concerns raised during those engagements would be documented and transformed into what she described as a “social contract” between her and the people.
“If I emerge as the flag bearer of my party, the Nigerian Democratic Congress, I would love to go to every ward, sit down, and just listen. I want every ward to tell me what the problems are,” she said during the interview.
She added that after identifying the key issues affecting communities, the priorities would be written down, agreed upon collectively, and tracked over time to ensure accountability.
The activist-turned-politician said the approach would differ from what she described as the traditional style of politics where candidates make broad promises without measurable commitments.
Yusuf stated that she wants residents of the FCT to be able to hold her accountable based on clearly outlined goals and agreed development priorities.
The NDC aspirant also said her desire to contest the Senate seat is driven by a commitment to leave a lasting legacy and make meaningful contributions to governance in Abuja.
She maintained that her transition from activism into partisan politics is aimed at moving from demanding accountability from leaders to directly participating in solving governance challenges.
