- Datti Baba-Ahmed has questioned Peter Obi’s readiness for the 2027 election and criticised his exit from the Labour Party.
- He also raised concerns about Obi’s political strategy and potential alliances.
Former vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has raised concerns about his former running mate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview shared on X (formerly Twitter), Baba-Ahmed urged Obi to reassess his readiness for the political challenges that come with contesting for the presidency.
He also criticised Obi’s decision to leave the Labour Party, stating that he would have preferred he remained to address internal party issues.
“As much as I dislike what the All Progressives Congress has done against Nigerians, someone who got the Labour Party’s ticket so easily should have stayed to fix the problem of the party no matter how difficult it is,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed further questioned Obi’s approach to political conflict, suggesting it may not be suitable for leadership at the national level.
“My former leader (Peter Obi) saying that wherever there is a quarrel, he will walk away? So there is a quarrel in Nigeria, will he walk away? If you are not ready to fight, stay in your house,” he added.
He also cast doubt on the viability of a potential alliance involving Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, particularly in terms of gaining support in northern Nigeria.
The comments come amid ongoing political realignments, with Obi and Kwankwaso reportedly moving from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), a development that continues to generate debate across the political landscape.
