According to a report by the Punch on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, shortly after his conviction and sentencing by the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of large-scale financial misappropriation.…....

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, stating that Mamman was picked up in the early hours of Tuesday in Kaduna State alongside two individuals suspected of assisting him while in hiding. He added that the property where the arrest took place is currently under investigation as part of ongoing recovery efforts.

The former minister was recently sentenced to 75 years in prison in absentia after being found guilty on 12 counts of money laundering and fraud involving about ₦33.8 billion linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydropower projects. Following the judgment, the EFCC intensified its intelligence-led search operations to locate and apprehend him.

Olukoyede described the arrest as part of the agency’s renewed commitment to combating corruption and ensuring that those who divert public funds are brought to justice regardless of their status or location. He also noted that investigations are ongoing into additional assets allegedly linked to the convict, while efforts are underway to transfer him to the appropriate correctional facility in line with court orders.

The EFCC further indicated that anyone found to have aided or harboured the former minister during his attempt to evade arrest would also be prosecuted as investigations continue.
