India will host the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting under its chairship on May 14 and 15, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar set to chair discussions involving foreign ministers and heads of delegation from BRICS member and partner countries.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visiting delegations will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the two-day engagement.
The meeting comes as India assumes the BRICS chairship for 2026 and seeks to push discussions on global governance reforms, multilateral cooperation and economic resilience amid rising geopolitical uncertainties.
On the first day of the meeting, BRICS foreign ministers are expected to exchange views on key global and regional issues of mutual interest.
On the second day, BRICS member and partner countries will participate in a dedicated session themed “BRICS@20: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”. Discussions will then move to reforms of the global governance and multilateral system.
The upcoming meeting follows the last BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) on September 26, 2025.
That meeting was chaired by India in its capacity as the incoming BRICS chair for 2026, setting the stage for this year’s broader ministerial engagements under New Delhi’s leadership.
