As tensions fluctuate in the region, Carter urged Iranian officials to take the United States’ diplomatic overtures seriously before the situation escalates further.
“They need to come to the table and negotiate and get the best deal they can,” Carter said. “Otherwise, if they think Donald Trump is kidding, they need to think again. This is a man who says what he means and means what he says.”
Carter’s comments come as the White House continues to balance a naval blockade with a push for a 14-point proposal from Tehran.
The congressman argued that strong leadership is the only way to secure a favorable outcome for U.S. national interests.
A central theme of Carter’s interview was the closeness of foreign and domestic policy. He argued that instability in the Middle East has a direct consequence for global oil markets, which translates into immediate hardship for his constituents in Georgia.
“Resolving such conflicts through negotiation is essential to protecting both economic stability and national interests,” Carter explained.
He noted that international tensions create a ripple effect, leading to higher gasoline prices that act as a hidden tax on American consumers.
Beyond the global stage, the congressman used the platform to address the political climate within his home state.
Carter highlighted that the Georgia redistricting process remains a major point of debate as both parties scramble to shape electoral boundaries ahead of the upcoming elections.
