The Lagos state government has revealed that properties worth ₦118.32 billion were saved from fire incidents across the state in 2025.
Also, assets valued at ₦19.72 billion were lost to various fire outbreaks.
The figures were disclosed on Monday by Olugbenga Oyerinde, the commissioner for special duties and inter-governmental Relations during the 2026 ministerial press briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja, marking the seventh anniversary of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.
Oyerinde said the data reflects improved emergency response capacity by the Lagos state fire and rescue service and other agencies in managing fire disasters and reducing economic losses.
According to him, the net value of assets protected during the period stood at about ₦98.60 billion, with March 2025 recording the highest value of properties saved, while August recorded the lowest.
He added that Lagos recorded 1,972 emergency calls related to fire and rescue operations within the year, with fire incidents accounting for 1,685 of those calls.
The commissioner also disclosed that 473 victims were rescued alive during emergency operations, while 133 persons were recovered dead across the state.
Oyerinde noted that the state fire and rescue service inspected 8,791 facilities in 2025, issuing 7,997 fire safety certificates to compliant organisations, including schools, hospitals, hotels, filling stations, and other establishments.
He attributed the improved performance to investments in firefighting equipment, personnel welfare, and new fire stations across the state, adding that ongoing projects in Oworonshoki, Yaba, and Ikotun would further strengthen response capacity.
The government reiterated its commitment to enhancing fire prevention, enforcing safety standards, and improving emergency response systems to protect lives and property in Lagos.
