LASU Excels Again as Don Bags International Appointment, VC Jubilates

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has congratulated Professor Olufemi Adebowale Abass on his appointment as the incoming Director-General and Head of Mission of the West African Insurance Institute.

The congratulatory message was conveyed on behalf of the management, staff and entire university community following the appointment of Professor Abass, who currently serves as Acting Director of LASU Ventures Limited. 

The appointment to the regional institute, based in Banjul, The Gambia, was described by the university as a recognition of his years of dedication to academia, research and professional practice within the insurance and financial services sector.

Professor Abass, a Professor of Risk Management and Insurance, was praised for his extensive experience in teaching, research and industry practice. 

According to the Vice-Chancellor, his emergence as Director-General of WAII reflects “the value of perseverance, competence and consistent service,” while also serving as an inspiration to younger academics and professionals pursuing excellence in their respective careers.

Furthermore, Olatunji-Bello stated that the appointment was a testament to Professor Abass’ distinguished academic career and his unwavering commitment to advancing knowledge and public service. 

She noted that the recognition fittingly acknowledged his contributions to scholarship, professional excellence and capacity building within the insurance industry.

The Vice-Chancellor also affirmed that the appointment brings pride to Lagos State University and further reinforces the institution’s reputation for producing globally recognised professionals and leaders across diverse sectors.

“On behalf of the University community, the Vice-Chancellor extends heartfelt congratulations to Professor Olufemi Adebowale Abass and wishes him a successful tenure in office,” the statement added.
