LP: Usman Came To Support Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign, She Wasn’t A Member Of The Party —Abure

Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, has defended his leadership record amid the party’s ongoing internal crisis, insisting that the party’s rise to national prominence ahead of the 2023 general elections was a direct result of reforms and restructuring carried out under his administration.…....

Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV on Monday, Abure said the Labour Party had little national relevance before he emerged as chairman. According to him, his leadership focused on rebuilding the party’s image, strengthening its political structure, and positioning it as a viable force ahead of the 2023 elections.

Abure explained that although the party already had a strong ideological foundation, it lacked the visibility and organisation needed to compete effectively on the national stage. He stated that his team deliberately worked to attract individuals who shared the party’s philosophy and were committed to its growth.

The Labour Party chieftain maintained that the strong performance recorded by the party during the 2022–2023 political cycle was achieved through dedication, sacrifice, and strategic planning by his leadership team. He argued that previous administrations failed to achieve similar political success for the party.

Abure also claimed that the party’s growing popularity attracted individuals seeking to take control of its leadership structure. He specifically mentioned former senator Nenadi Usman, alleging that she only became involved with the party during the presidential campaign of former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi.

He concluded by insisting that the current prominence enjoyed by the Labour Party was built on the foundation laid by his administration.
