A Cardwell man has been sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of dec@pitating his mother, Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain said.
Trevor John Huber, 43, was convicted at trial of the first-degree murd£r of his mother, 63-year-old Charlotte Wilson. Judge Josh Underwood sentenced Huber to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The two-day trial took place from May 18-19 in Dunklin County. Huber was found guilty as charged.
“I want to thank the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their professional and diligent work in investigating and solving this homicide and in all the cases they handle,” Jain said.
On Dec. 21, 2018, the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a man on the 300 block of North Main Street in Cardwell, a probable cause affidavit said. Dispatchers said Huber sounded confused on the call.
A deputy responded to the address and made contact with a man, later identified as Huber, who answered the door naked.
The deputy asked about the whereabouts of Huber’s mother.
“The male again appeared to be disoriented and possibly impaired by illegal narcotics,” the deputy said.
During the interview, Huber told investigators he had done methamphetamine a few days before the murd£r.
The deputy entered the home and found a decapitated woman. The deputy arrested Huber and identified the woman as Huber’s mother, Charlotte Wilson.
Huber admitted to investigators in a Mirandized interview that “he was concerned he k!lled his mother.” He said he believed she was trying to k!ll him by poisoning him.
Huber wrote “I k!lled my mother” on a piece of paper, then tore it up and swallowed it.
Officers executed a search warrant at Huber’s home, where they found Wilson’s head and a bloody knife and hammer believed to have been used to k!ll her.
