The golfer was born on the 11th of October 1989 in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. Her father “Byung-Wook Wie” worked as a professor at the University of Hawaii.

Michelle’s mother “Bo Wie” is a former golfer and model. Michelle’s parents immigrated from South Korea and came to the USA thus Michelle had dual nationality.

Michelle Wie graduated from Punahou School in Honolulu in June 2007. Later she decided to attend Stanford University, where she had family ties.

In September 2007  she decided to enrol herself as a professional golfer. But Wie was not eligible under NCAA rules to play for Stanford’s golf team. She took leaves of absence for the rest of the year to play professional golf and improved her golf skills.

In March 2019, Wie proudly announced her engagement with Jonnie West, who is Director of Basketball Operations for the Golden State Warriors. Jonnie is the son of NBA legend Jerry West. They married on August 10, 2019, at a private home in Beverly Hills, California. Wie in the month of January 2020  announced she was pregnant and had a daughter. She wishes to return to competitive golf soon.

Career

Michelle Wie started playing golf when she was four. At the age of ten, she was the youngest player to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. By the end of 2006, Wie had already earned around $20 million in her rookie professional season.

Unfortunately, injuries and swing problems halted her progress in 2007. This led to a disastrous and controversy-filled season.

We returned in 2008 (while attending Stanford University), and in late 2009, she won her first LPGA victory. It was her ability to excel at the highest levels of women’s golf at such a young age that made her a subject of attention and criticism.

Wie’s track record on the LPGA Tour from the end of 2006 was strong. Still, she lacked a victory. She had finished second in six tournaments with multiple strong showings in LPGA majors. She grabbed her first win in late 2009 after returning from her injury.

Wie did not participate in the men’s tournament since 2008. But since 2009, she has played in more Solheim Cups and added another LPGA victory. The year 2013 was not great for Wie. But she bounced back in 2014 with a series of strong finishes that culminated in her third victory at the Lotte Championship.

Her fourth win came a couple of weeks later, and it was the biggest of her career to that point: Michelle Wie’s first major championship, the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open.
