A warrant officer of the Nigerian Navy, identified as Yusuf M.O., has reportedly died following an alleged punitive action ordered by her superior at a naval medical facility in Lagos.
The incident was said to have occurred at the Nigerian Navy Sick Bay located in Gowon Estate, Ipaja area of Alimosho Local Government Area.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered from sources familiar with the matter that the deceased officer was absent from duty on May 19, 2026, but resumed the following day.
Upon her return, she was reportedly confronted by her immediate superior, identified as Lt. Commander S.T. Abashim, over her absence.
Sources disclosed that the officer explained she had been battling health challenges and required medical attention. However, her explanation was allegedly rejected.
The superior was said to have ordered her to undertake additional fatigue duties under harsh weather conditions as punishment.
According to eyewitness accounts, the officer developed complications while carrying out the task, including dizziness, blurred vision and signs of physical distress under the scorching sun.
She was reportedly not given immediate medical attention but was instead placed in isolation within one of the wards at the sick bay facility.
Sources further alleged that she remained unattended for about an hour before she was pronounced dead.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Navy had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
