The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with News Engineering Nigeria Limited to strengthen skills-based job creation across Nigeria.

The development was obtained by Nigeria Startup News from the agency’s social media post on Thursday.

According to the NDE, the partnership is aimed at expanding vocational training, entrepreneurship development and practical skills acquisition for Nigerians.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Acting Director-General of the NDE, Edmund Onwuliri, said the agency is moving beyond its traditional focus on the informal sector to work with specialist organisations that can help improve job creation and skills training nationwide.

“We are now partnering with specialist organisations like News Engineering to deliver high-quality vocational, entrepreneurship, labour-based and agricultural skills training to Nigerians,” he said.

Onwuliri explained that the NDE’s current training centres are not enough to meet the growing national demand, adding that partnerships with private companies have become necessary to scale training opportunities and service delivery.

He said the collaboration would help the agency reach more Nigerians with employable and business-focused skills.

The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of News Engineering Nigeria Limited, Lady Josephine Nwaeze, also expressed confidence in the partnership.

She appreciated the NDE for the collaboration and said the agreement would produce visible results for Nigerians seeking practical skills and economic opportunities.

“Skills are the way forward — you can thrive anywhere in the world with the right skills,” she said.

Director of the Vocational Skills Development Department at the NDE, Christopher Bamsida, revealed that discussions between both organisations started in December 2025 before the MoU was finalised.

He added that the NDE is fully committed to ensuring the immediate commencement of the partnership process.

The partnership comes as more government agencies and private organisations continue to focus on skills development and entrepreneurship as a way to tackle unemployment and improve job creation in Nigeria.
