The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has uncovered a shipment of high-grade illicit drugs concealed inside water purifier machines imported from Europe and destined for Lagos.
According to the agency, operatives intercepted the consignment at a courier company in Lagos State on May 26, 2026. The shipment contained ketamine weighing about 3 kilograms as well as 199 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy), all carefully hidden within the appliance packaging.
In a related operation in Kaduna State, NDLEA officers arrested two suspects, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another individual, Salomi Ezekiel, aged 38. They were apprehended after operatives recovered 100 jumbo bags of skunk, weighing a total of 1,246 kilograms, from a residence in the Gonin Gora area on May 24.
Also in Kaduna, along the Abuja–Kaduna highway near Jere, officers intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, in possession of 380 rounds of 7.62mm military-grade ammunition reportedly bound for Katsina State. The suspect and exhibits were handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation.
In Niger State, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence raided a warehouse at Gidan Kukah in Bosso Local Government Area, recovering 457 kilograms of skunk. A suspect, Godwin Zakka, 46, was later arrested at his residence in Gbeganu, Minna, in connection with the seizure.
Similarly, in Enugu State, officers on patrol along the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle headed to Taraba State. A search of the bus led to the recovery of 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 grams of bromazepam. The driver, James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested.
The agency also noted that its nationwide “War Against Drug Abuse (WADA)” sensitisation campaign continued during the week, with outreach programmes conducted in schools, churches, workplaces, and communities across several states, including lectures in Cross River, Taraba, Lagos, and Anambra.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the various operations, urging them not to relent in their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks while sustaining public enlightenment campaigns nationwide.
