Grammy-nominated Afro-house artist Niniola Apata has shared the heartbreaking news of the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, through a series of deeply emotional posts on her Instagram story in the early hours of Wednesday.

Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform dedicated to Afro-house and contemporary African music.

The circumstances surrounding his death have not been disclosed.

In her grief-stricken posts, Niniola expressed her pain in few but heavy words, noting that God had taken him, and mourning the loss of thirteen years together a sentiment she conveyed alongside photographs of the couple.

The singer has chosen not to share further details about his passing, consistent with the private personal life she has maintained away from the public eye.

At 39, Niniola first rose to prominence after her standout appearance on Project Fame West Africa in 2013, which served as her launchpad into the Nigerian music scene.

She has since grown into one of the country’s foremost Afro-house voices.

Her 2017 single Maradona brought her international acclaim and caught the attention of globally recognised music figures including DJ Snake, Drake, Timbaland, and Beyoncé.
