Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor, has called on communities to end the stigma surrounding menstruation.
Speaking at a Menstrual Hygiene Day event in Awka attended by female secondary school students and members of her NGO, Healthy Living Ambassadors.
She emphasized that menstruation is a completely normal biological process that no girl should feel embarrassed about.
She expressed concern that many girls continue to be isolated, ridiculed, or barred from certain activities during their periods due to ignorance, scarce sanitary products, and deeply rooted cultural misconceptions.
She argued that these attitudes must be replaced with empathy and practical support.
Dr. Soludo also highlighted the connection between informed, confident women and strong, healthy families.
On the practical side, she noted that her Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative has set up sanitary pad banks in over 350 schools in Anambra State and has handed out more than 25,000 packs of sanitary pads to schoolgirls across the state.
