The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that the police officer allegedly linked to the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija has been identified and taken into custody.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command disclosed that a full-scale investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and ensure justice is served.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep regret over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased child. He assured residents that the Command would handle the matter with transparency and professionalism.
According to the statement, the officer involved is currently undergoing interrogation and other administrative procedures in line with the disciplinary processes of the Nigeria Police Force.
The police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tension, while assuring that anyone found culpable would not be protected from justice.
The Command added that further updates on the outcome of the investigation would be communicated to the public accordingly.
