The Federal Government, has opened its case on an amended three-count charge of alleged cybercrime and felony against social media influencer, Justice Chidiebere also known as Justice Crack.
Chidiebere was brought before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the federal high Abuja, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Shortly after, the first prosecution witness, Oronto Douglas, continued his evidence-in-chief, including an affirmation that audio and video recordings of the defendant’s interview were downloaded to a flash drive.
He also told the court that he duly signed a certificate of compliance.
Responding, the defendant’s counsel raised an objection noting that the content of the flash drive sought to be played could not be verified.
At this point, Justice Abdulmalik faulted the prosecution for not applying to the court for an appropriate playback device to play the flash drive in open court for verification by the defendant’s counsel.
The prosecution responded that a formal application for a playback device was made to the deputy chief registrar of the court, to which the judge said the application should have been channeled to the head of the IT department, not the deputy chief registrar.
Counsel to the defendant prayed the court that the bail conditions earlier granted be allowed to continue.
The Prosecution did not object to the submission, which the court granted.
Justice Abdulmalik adjourned the matter to 28th September.
