Kaberia passed away on Sunday, May 25, after a long battle with illness. His death was confirmed by longtime colleague and fellow commentator Fred Arocho.

Popularly known in football circles as El Mago, he had been unwell for some time and required surgery.

Kaberia earned fame for his lively football commentary at Radio Jambo, one of Radio Africa’s pioneering stations.

He worked alongside Arocho, Peter Kirumba, Yusuf Kaona, and Diamond Okusimba, building one of the country’s most anticipated and followed sports shows.

His nickname, El Mago, is Spanish for ‘the magician’ or ‘the wizard.’ His colleagues in the industry have penned glowing tributes in his honour, and NGBREAKINGNEWS compiled them.

Gidi from radio Jambo heartbreakingly shared the moment he learnt about Diblo’s passing and celebrated his contribution to sports.

“It is with deep sadness that I have received the news of the passing of my colleague, Diblo Mwana wa Kaberia, the legendary football commentator at Radio Jambo. His voice, passion, and mastery of football commentary touched and entertained countless listeners across the country. Lala salama Diblo. Your contribution to sports media will never be forgotten. May your family, friends, colleagues, and fans find comfort and strength during this difficult time. Malowa.”

Omusiani also shared a tearjerking message. He said:

“This has caught me off guard… My friend, my brother, my comrade… Rip Paul Kaberia aka Diblo El Mago.”

Ali Baba noted that it was hard for him to learn about Diblo’s death, noting that he was a colleague and a kinsman, and that he would miss the sports commentator deeply.

Mulemi Airo admitted that he was still in shock and processing the fact that his colleague had moved on to the afterlife.

“I lack words to describe this! This is shocking. Rest in peace, Diblo.” he said.

“Toldo has been hit hard by his co-host’s death. The two had great chemistry. Diblo’s voice was unique. He had a way to win fans to listen to football. We will miss him,” Diblo’s colleague, who didn’t want to be identified, told NGBREAKINGNEWS.
