Rufai Oseni questions credibility of APC primary election

Journalist Rufai Oseni has reacted critically to the recently concluded APC primary election, describing the exercise as more of a “skit” than a genuine democratic process.

Speaking during the morning programme, Rufai questioned the credibility of the figures emerging from the primary, particularly claims surrounding the number of votes allegedly secured by President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, presenting such massive figures in a party primary could create a dangerous narrative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He argued that if the ruling party claims the President can secure over 11 million votes during an internal primary, it could later be used as justification for similarly high figures in the main election.

Rufai warned that such narratives may raise concerns about electoral credibility and public trust in future elections if not properly addressed.

His words in part …

“Do you think this APC just concluded primary is actually an election? It’s a skit. I want to challenge this narrative here, this just concluded APC primary election should never be a pretext for what’s going to happen in the 2027 election, because if they are now saying President Tinubu can get 11 million votes in a primary, that means he can’t get anything less than that during the main election. That’s a bad narrative and a pretext for rigging.”
