Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed sincere gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project.
In a statement issued on his behalf, the Governor commended the Federal Government for what he described as a significant milestone in the state’s transportation infrastructure development.
The Green Line Rail Project will span approximately 68 kilometres, linking Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, with about 17 stations serving key locations such as Victoria Island, Ajah, and the wider Lekki corridor.
According to the statement, the rail line is projected to serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at inception, with the capacity to increase to about one million passengers over time.
It will also be capable of moving up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, significantly reducing travel time and easing pressure on Lagos’ heavily congested road network.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the project as a clear demonstration of the state’s commitment to improving mobility, supporting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for all Lagosians.
He further appreciated the continued support and partnership of the Federal Government, reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s dedication to delivering a modern and efficient rail system that meets the needs of the people.
The approval of Phase 1A of the Green Line is expected to bring long-awaited relief to commuters, particularly in the Lekki axis, and strengthen Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s economic hub with world-class infrastructure.
