“She Spoke From Empathy”- Morayo Brown Speaks On Shaffy Bello’s Viral Statement

Media personality Morayo Brown has defended actress Shaffy Bello following the backlash that trailed her recent comments during an appearance on The Morayo Show.

Shaffy Bello had sparked reactions online after speaking about women involved in escorting, popularly referred to as call girls. During the conversation, the actress advised them to think about personal growth and eventually move beyond that lifestyle, while also speaking without condemnation.

Her remarks quickly stirred controversy, with several social media users accusing her of encouraging prostitution.

Reacting to the criticism, Morayo Brown clarified that Shaffy Bello’s comments were misunderstood. According to the TV host, the actress spoke from a place of compassion and understanding rather than support for the lifestyle.

“She was coming from a place of empathy, not judgment,” Morayo explained. “Shaffy Bello was not encouraging anyone to become a call girl. Her message was simply, ‘I understand your situation, but don’t remain there forever.’”

Morayo also revealed that getting Shaffy Bello on the programme was not easy because of the actress’ tight schedule. She said the actress eventually honoured the invitation despite being occupied with other commitments.

The show host further stated that The Morayo Show was created to inspire and entertain viewers, not to promote controversy or drag guests online. She noted that the programme’s mission has always been centered on positivity and meaningful conversations.

Appealing to critics, Morayo urged Nigerians to stop attacking the veteran actress online. She described Shaffy Bello as a respected figure in the entertainment industry and expressed disappointment over the harsh reactions trailing her comments.

“Aunty Shaffy Bello is a national treasure,” she said. “The way people have reacted to her statement is really disheartening.”

@doreenomosele:”Aunty Moyo, that was not her intention, but that statement came from a place … it wasn’t even once.” Do it with respect.” Do it with your full chest.” What happened to it is wrong, get out of it. Get out of it. Find something else to do! Cry out for help! Sell pure water if you have to.., I get the empathy, but this is social media… if someone’s daughter is 16 and she sees that, won’t she start thinking street girl is a considerable thing to do when life hits?”

@beeceeugboh:”She said exactly what I would have said, which is the absolute truth! She spoke with wisdom, and people understood her well. We just like to twist things to make people look bad! Thanks for speaking up for her sis! We are here for only joy.”

@kennybraidedwigs:”Some people can’t even comprehend even if you explain till tomorrow. We who understand do well.”

@viableinks_solution:”There’s nothing not serious in what Madam Shaffy Bello had said, let’s put sentiment aside. Will you tell someone to do drugs to survive and stop, or will you advise a child to do Yahoo and stop? Legitimacy cannot be overemphasized. And you are aware of the society we are in and how hard it is for many to comprehend, cos we hear in part and many would thrive on that little. For me, it’s all shades of wrong, ma! You forget that just one trial may lead to the death of some people.”
