An X (formerly Twitter) user has shared a story about a lady whose parents allegedly sold their family’s only land to sponsor her relocation to the United Kingdom.
According to the narration by @kenkenlewu, the lady reportedly convinced her parents to raise about ₦15 million for her relocation after promising that she would begin supporting the family financially once she settled abroad.
In her words, she tweeted:
“My friend’s elder sister got a UK visa and convinced their parents to sell the family’s only land to fund her relocation. She promised that after a few months abroad, she would start sending money home.”
The storyteller claimed that more than a year after relocating, the lady keeps complaining about bills, taxes, and the high cost of living abroad whenever her father asks her for money for his medication.
The situation reportedly became more painful for the family after the lady posted a TikTok video showing herself carrying luxury shopping bags with a caption suggesting she was enjoying a comfortable lifestyle.
“Yesterday, she posted a TikTok video carrying luxury shopping bags with the caption, ‘Soft life only,’” she added.
The story has sparked mixed reactions online, with some people sympathising with the parents while others argued that life abroad may not be as easy as it appears on social media.
The viral post continues to generate conversations online about family sacrifices, relocation pressures, and the reality of living abroad.
