SpaceX is proposing to spend $55 billion to begin construction of a massive semiconductor manufacturing and advanced computing facility in Texas dubbed “Terafab.”
• The total investment could eventually reach $119 billion if additional phases of the project are completed.
• Elon Musk said the project is aimed at producing chips for his AI, robotics, and space initiatives, arguing the semiconductor industry is not moving fast enough to meet demand.
• The facility is expected to produce advanced 2-nanometer chips and support up to a terawatt of computing power annually as Musk ramps up investments in AI and robotics.
