TCN Announces Power Outage Across Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Others for Maintenance

Electricity consumers in parts of Northern Nigeria and Niger Republic are expected to experience power outage following a planned maintenance operation by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.

The outage affects Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, parts of Bauchi and Yobe states, as well as Gazaoua in Niger Republic.

According to TCN, the planned outage is scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Mando–Kumbotso 330kV transmission line.

The company said the shutdown became necessary to allow its maintenance crew repair a damaged Red Phase Conductor on Tower T187 along the transmission route.

As a result, Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, will be unable to supply electricity to customers in the affected areas during the repair period.

TCN explained that the maintenance work is important for improving the safety and reliability of the power grid, adding that electricity supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the repair.

The company apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience and urged residents to bear with the temporary disruption.
