The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Inspector Abdulkadir Garba, widely known as “Buratai,” who was struck by lightning while on duty in Maiduguri.
According to the command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, at about 2:19 p.m. Inspector Garba was carrying out his routine duty of coordinating vehicle parking opposite the police headquarters alongside his senior colleague, ASP Wazani Adamu.
As storm clouds gathered, both officers attempted to seek shelter. However, before they could reach safety, a sudden thunderclap was followed by a powerful lightning strike that hurt them.
