A court has granted bail to a 26-year-old TikTok content creator, Akosua Serwaa Minat, after her arrest over alleged threats against Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama.
The court set bail at GH¢1 million with two sureties. It also directed that one of the sureties must be a civil servant earning at least GH¢5,000 each month.
In addition, Minat must surrender her passport and Ghana Card to the police and report regularly to investigators while the case remains under investigation.
Police identified the suspect as Mahama Aminat, who is widely known on TikTok as Akosua Serwaa Minat.
Officers from the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) arrested her after videos she allegedly posted online gained widespread attention.
According to investigators, the videos contained insulting remarks aimed at President Mahama and statements they considered threats to his life. Police also alleged that parts of the recordings encouraged acts of violence against the President and his wife, Lordina Mahama.
Security officials say the arrest forms part of a broader effort to tackle the misuse of social media platforms for content that promotes threats, incitement, or actions that could endanger public safety and national security.
The videos circulated widely on TikTok and other social media platforms, drawing significant public attention. The content sparked concern among many Ghanaians and led to calls for swift intervention by security agencies.
