Toyin Abraham Reacts To Oyo Killings, Demands Urgent Action Against Insecurity

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has spoken out following the recent wave of killings and abductions in Oyo State, expressing sadness over the attacks and calling for stronger security measures to protect lives across Nigeria.

The actress shared her reaction in a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday, where she lamented the worsening security situation affecting communities in Oyo State and other parts of the country.

According to Abraham, the recent incidents involving teachers, schoolchildren, and residents deeply affected her emotionally because of her strong personal connection to Oyo State through family ties and cultural roots.

“My heart is deeply heavy over the painful killings and abductions happening in Oyo State and across different parts of Nigeria,” she wrote.

The actress described the attacks as devastating and heartbreaking, especially because innocent people continue to lose their lives while many families are forced to live in fear and uncertainty.

“As someone with strong ties to Oyo State through family, culture and love for the people, this tragedy feels very personal to me. It is heartbreaking to see innocent lives lost, families thrown into mourning, children living in fear and communities traumatised by violence,” she stated.

Abraham particularly sympathised with families affected by the attacks in Oriire Local Government Area, where several people were reportedly targeted by armed attackers. She expressed concern over the increasing fear among parents and children due to insecurity.

“I mourn especially with the families of the victims, the parents whose children were taken, and everyone affected by the recent attacks in Oriire Local Government and other parts of the state,” she said.

The actress stressed that no citizen should have to live under constant fear of violence or kidnapping, adding that children should feel safe going to school without anxiety.

“No Nigerian deserves to live in fear. No child should be afraid to go to school. No family should wake up to news of violence and bloodshed,” she added.

While acknowledging the efforts already being made by security agencies and the Oyo State Government, Abraham insisted that more urgent and decisive action is needed to tackle the growing insecurity problem.

“I want to sincerely commend the efforts of the security agencies and the Oyo State Government, but it is important to appeal for more urgent and decisive actions to secure the release of those still in captivity and strengthen the protection of lives and communities,” she wrote.

The actress also questioned what additional preventive measures were being introduced to stop future attacks from occurring in affected communities.

“And please, what is the state government doing to prevent future occurrences?” she asked.

According to Abraham, the issue of insecurity should not be treated as a political matter alone, but as a national concern requiring collective responsibility and unity among Nigerians.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us, and this is a time for unity, compassion and collective responsibility. We cannot normalise violence,” she stated.

She further urged Nigerians to continue speaking out against insecurity while supporting one another during difficult times.

“We must continue to speak up, support one another and pray for peace to return to our land,” she added.

Concluding her message, the actress offered prayers for grieving families and victims affected by the attacks.

“May God comfort every grieving family, heal our nation and protect every innocent life,” she wrote.

Toyin Abraham’s reaction follows reports of recent violent attacks in Oyo State, including the killing of a kidnapped male teacher who was allegedly beheaded by his abductors. Separate attacks in Oyo and Katsina states also reportedly claimed several lives in recent days, further increasing concerns over insecurity across the country.

Her statement has since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians praising her for using her platform to draw attention to the worsening security crisis and demand stronger action from authorities.
