Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted a suspected ammunition courier and recovered 500 rounds of ammunition along the Obajana–Lokoja road in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Sources said the suspect was arrested at about 1000 hours on Wednesday by troops of 12 Brigade acting on credible intelligence.
The ammunition, comprising 7.62mm NATO belted rounds, was concealed inside a bag of maize at the time of interception.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment was handed over to the suspect at a forest location in Obajana for onward delivery to suspected terrorists at Dikko Junction in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.
Further findings indicated that the suspect allegedly specialised in the movement of arms and ammunition for terrorist elements across states along the River Niger corridor.
Military authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
They added that the interception was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt logistics supply chains of criminal elements and enhance security along key transit routes.
