President Trump announced that the U.S. will raise tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the European Union to 25% starting next week, citing the EU’s failure to comply with a previously agreed trade deal.

Trump said vehicles produced in U.S.-based plants would not be subject to tariffs, adding that more than $100 billion is currently being invested in new auto and truck manufacturing facilities across the country, which he described as a record.
