Tyla beats Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema to win AMA Afrobeats award

Tyla Seethal, South African singer emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 52nd American Music Awards after defeating Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Wizkid and Rema to clinch the Best Afrobeats Artist category.

The award ceremony, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and hosted by Queen Latifah, also saw Tyla win Social Song of the Year for her hit track, “CHANEL.”

The 24-year-old singer became the only African artist to win at the event despite not attending the ceremony physically.

Her song “CHANEL,” released in October 2025, has recorded massive global success, surpassing 320 million Spotify streams and topping charts across several countries.

Tyla, who entered the night as the most nominated African artist in AMA history with four nominations, has continued to gain international recognition following the success of her breakout single “Water.”

Other major winners at the awards included BTS for Artist of the Year, Sabrina Carpenter for Album of the Year with Man’s Best Friend, and HUNTR/X’s “Golden” featuring EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, which won Song of the Year.
