When did Cheruto go to Lebanon?

A young woman from the Milimani area of Ziwa Soy Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, is relieved and delighted to be back home after a difficult stint abroad.

Vicoty Cheruto, the daughter of salon owner Sally Jerop, recently returned home after spending a challenging year overseas, where she had travelled for work.

“She travelled to Beirut, Lebanon, in 2024 in search of opportunities, and at the beginning, everything appeared to be going well. However, communication with her family abruptly stopped in April 2025, leaving relatives uncertain about her whereabouts and wellbeing.

For months, her family had no information on whether she was alive or dead. Later, in April this year, she was finally traced, and it was discovered that she had been held in prison in Lebanon for about one year,” part of a post read.

When did Cheruto lose communication with family?

Like many young Kenyans who travel abroad for domestic work opportunities, Cheruto had hoped to build a better future and create stability for her loved ones back home.

When she first arrived in Lebanon, everything seemed fine, and she was optimistic that she would soon be able to support her family and improve their lives.

However, things took an unexpected turn in 2025 when communication with her family gradually declined before stopping altogether, leaving her loved ones deeply concerned.

Who paid of Cheruto’s return home ticket?

For months, Cheruto’s family searched for information about her whereabouts and wellbeing, unable to reach anyone who could help them.

They later learned that she had been imprisoned for a year, although the circumstances surrounding her detention remained unclear.

“Her return became possible through the intervention of friends, neighbours, and well-wishers who contributed towards her support. The area Member of Parliament, Hon. David Kiplagat, also assisted by paying for her air ticket back to Kenya.

After one year of uncertainty and detention in a foreign country, Cheruto has finally landed safely back home in Kenya and has been reunited with her family,” the post concluded.

Mombasa lady killed in Lebanon

In another story Agnes Emmanuel travelled abroad to earn a living and support her family back home in Shanzu, Mombasa County.

Unfortunately, years later, she was allegedly attacked and killed by fellow Kenyans in the foreign country, leaving her family devastated and searching for answers.

Two months later, the family was still unable to repatriate her body for burial as they continued to seek justice for their loved one.
